Comrades! It's the holidays!
It's Christmas eve, and what a magical day it is. Come to think of it...what a magical year it's been! Thanks for making it so fun! Man, I think all the highlights this year have been collective efforts - revolution pun intended! There was the #JURT tour, where we ALL went on tour...a bunch of cool gigs that were like big parties...new friends and comrades, a bunch of guitar lessons, some really rockin' radio interviews. SO COOL!
Now, there's been a ton going on, and a ton planned, and I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be really nifty. However, today's broadcast is a bit shorter - it's the holidays, so it's a time to thank. Of course, it's me, so there's always promotion, and stories as well. Here's a quick one:
A few years ago...I had a dream where I got to meet and chat with Stevie Ray Vaughan. So, what did I ask my all-time favorite guitar player and musical hero? ........................The music business. D'oh!
I was angry with myself when I woke up. But, time passed, and my zeal for networking only grew. Cut to a few weeks ago, and after watching a few episodes of 30 Rock , I fell asleep only to have Alec Baldwin visit me and say as only Alec can, "Josh, you're really good at self-promotion." It's cosmic!
So, Here's the promotions:
The questions gathered like the clouds over Europe. Who's gonna save Christmas? Hear the story of how I helped Santa beat the Nazis in WWII.
Since it's Christmas Eve, I've got a special treat for you...
The LIVE telling of "Lt. Prancer" in the form of a one-man play! Brother Noah Urban recorded it at the "There's a Red Star Up on the Christmas Tree" show at Quality Printers in White Plains, MD on 12/7.
And, here's the original "radio broadcast."

Are you a musician? Do you have a tune that's radio-ready? I'm starting an initiative at WDCE to put unsigned and independent musicians on the air, both with airplay of songs and live interviews. Send an email to
WDCEairplay@gmail.com and we'll get things started.
Santa is a Communist
In case you missed this vital piece of information last year in the form of my music video, well...
The spring tour
You heard it here FIRST! I'm planning a #JURT tour for the spring. I'll have more details next month about this bigger, better, and even more inclusive tour. Get your hashtags ready - the world stage is being set! Now, I'd love to have some input. Is there anything you can think of to make it easier to understand, more accessible, or just plain cooler? Hit me up!
And for now, just sing..."I hear that train a-comin' - it's rollin' 'round the bend." BE EXCITED!
Where is that EP?
In the works! In the works! I've got one all written called Crosstie Blues, which I premiered at The Camel in Richmond in November. I came up with the ideas on tour, and wrote it during Hurricane Sandy all alone as the winds howled in the night, and it's a great depressing blues track that questions the point of it all. You know, essential blues stuff! So stay tuned, there's #JURT-inspired stuff and a new generation of Josh tunes on the way!
Now, for the Thank-You part...
Man, oh man...Comrades, you have been tremendous this year! It was great to play shows a bunch of people this year, but I'd like to give a special shout out to Freddy Lau, Paul Willson, Steve Hung, Lynn Hollyfield, Josh Namyst, Annie Craine, Chris Esposito, Allison Shapira, Anthony Richardson, Sebastian Calo, Sam Carts, and Alex Young. They certainly have been shining (red) stars of the Revolution, and it has been an honor to share the stage with them.
For those who joined in the TOUR - WOW that was fun! To the people who came out, who took photos, who tweeted, who followed along, who rocked out...THANK YOU! And a special thanks to my brothers Noah and Zakk. They hung out around the tracks for two hours one Friday night to get all those cool #JURT shots, and then, and THEN...The shot got on the front page of the Maryland Independent! And then...I forgot to credit him for it. So, it just says "Submitted photo." LAME! Sorry, guys! Thanks for the shot, Noah, and thanks to both of you guys for all the support, encouragement, and stellar ideas.
To all the guitar students - I truly can't thank you enough. Not only do you allow me to eat and keep a roof over my head, BUT you bring me so much laughter and joy. I always knew I enjoyed teaching, but I've come to understand this year just how much you add to my life. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you. Thank you.
Happy New Year
I can't wait to start overthrowing with you comrades! There will be an EP, at least one tour, fun shows, radio, and who knows what else! I hope your holiday season is peaceful, joyful, and that you're set for a great 2013 as well. It's been an honor. Thank you. Happy Holidays, Merry AXEmas (guitar joke!), and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Peace,
-Josh
P.S. I've decided what I want to be when I grow up...Here's a picture:
